Only one Samsung S Pen works with SmartThings Find

Only the $100 S Pen Pro can be tracked with SmartThings Find, and it won't fit in the Galaxy S26 Ultra's built-in pen slot, according to Engadget.

The facts

  • According to Engadget, the S Pen Pro is the only S Pen Samsung officially supports for tracking through SmartThings Find. It sells separately for $100.
  • The S Pen Pro is a larger, rechargeable stylus, so it won't fit in the Galaxy S26 Ultra's built-in slot.
  • Bluetooth alone doesn't make a pen trackable. The built-in S Pens on the Galaxy S22, S23 and S24 Ultra have Bluetooth but can't be found via SmartThings Find. Samsung removed Bluetooth from the S25 Ultra's pen, and the S26 Ultra is the same.
  • Offline finding must be switched on in SmartThings before the pen goes missing. Nearby Galaxy devices with the setting on can anonymously relay its last known location to Samsung.

Case notes · Danny's take

Why it matters

Samsung's pen names make it sound as if every S Pen is the same. They aren't. The Bluetooth pens that shipped inside phones can't be tracked, while the one that can doesn't fit the phone. If you assume you're covered, you find out the hard way. Read the spec before you trust the label.

For builders

Naming that hides real differences between products leads to confused users and support tickets. Say plainly which accessories support which features. Also note that Samsung's offline finding relies on a network of nearby devices relaying locations, and it only works if enough of them have the setting enabled.

Not financial advice. Do your own investigation.
